The story continues.
Séadna hears that Mícheál, who works for him, and his mother Siobhán, a widow, are going to be evicted by the bailif. Séadna gives them the money (Mícheál's salary ahead of time) and saves the day, "ar son an tSlánaitheora."
The story gets around. Sadhbh and Diarmaid argue. She's quite the shrew. Máiare Ghearra, a saintly girl, hears and talks to mícheál's mother about it.
Máire tells her a big secret (maybe she's in love with Séadna?). The next day, Siobhán goes to see Séadna.
Mícheál hears Séadna say "It would be better to die the worst of deaths than to marry me." When his mother leaves, Séadna is gone. He doesn't come back all day.
