Séadna returns. He goes to speak to Máire. Séadna tells her why he won't marry - vow to God. She's relieved and satisfied and happy for Séadna, in a way. Séadna was not happy at all.
He goes up a hill to be alone. The barefoot woman comes to him! She gives him a special gift to wear around his neck. She disappears.
He feels much better. He returns to work. They think maybe he's nuts, but no one says anything.
The girls discuss the events of the story. Gobnait ells a story about "courting." The chapter ends with funny stuff about English.
